Our Parades

Do you want to be part of the Dragon Parades?



Each year the Association relies on the participation of volunteers to parade the Dragon. For males, there are positions for Dragon Legs, Head and Tail Carriers (strong guys!), Weapon and Banner Carriers. For females, there are Lanterns and Animals to carry.

2023 Moomda Parade

  • Date: Monday, 13 March 2023
  • Time: 9.00 a.m.
  • Location: Chinese Museum, 22 Cohen Place

We do have a duty of care and with the new guidelines and protocols, there will be some new procedures to be followed. This is not mandatory and it is not compulsory but for everyone’s safety and health, we hope you will willingly adhere to the following procedures.

COVID SAFETY PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS

For all our safety, all participants coming to the Chinese Museum to participate in the Parade are required to:

  1. Undertake a Rapid Antigen Test outside the entrance to the Chinese Museum.
  2. Check in with the QR code at Reception.
  3. Check your name off our list or register your name and contact number/email if it is not there.
  4. Please ensure that you have your runners on (no slippers, no sandals – proper runner shoes).

Eligibility:

Due to the Association being required to have “a duty of care” to its Participants, it restricts participation to:

  • Boys & Girls over 12 years to carry weapons, banners and lanterns;
  • Boys & Men over 16 years old to be the “Legs” of the Dragon; Or,
  • If the Committee’s Representatives, in their judgement, deem any Applicant unsuitable to participate. Uniforms:

Uniforms:

All uniforms will be issued to all Participants (except footwear). Please come wearing white runners.

Lunch:

Lunch will be provided free-of-charge to Participants only, after the Parade. Should your partners, parents or friends wish to join you in the meal, a subsidised charge of $20.00 is payable.

The MDLA Lion Team will be awakening the Big Dragon, “dancing” around to ward off any “undesirables”.
