Each year the Association relies on the participation of volunteers to parade the Dragon. For males, there are positions for Dragon Legs, Head and Tail Carriers (strong guys!), Weapon and Banner Carriers. For females, there are Lanterns and Animals to carry.
Dear Supporter and Leg Volunteers of Dai Loong
How are you?
Happy New Year – hope 2021 will be a better year for all of us.
And very soon, it will be Happy Chinese “Niu” 牛 Year. The 2021 Melbourne Chinatown Chinese New Year festivities will still go ahead but without the Dragon Parade and the closure of Russell Street for Stallholders. All the activities will be held at the Chinatown Square and also at the vacant land at 138 Lt. Bourke Street.
We thank you for your support and for some of you, for years and years – truly appreciated and we are grateful that you have volunteered to ensure that the tradition of the Dragon Parade would carry on.
We do have a duty of care and with the restrictions and the pandemic, we should not be going out in the Parade. For everyone’s safety and health, it is with regret that we will not be parading our beloved Millennium Dai Loong this year. And also, possibly Moomba too.
Do come into the city as we celebrate the Chinese New Year with other cultural activities from 11 to 14 February 2021. There will be games and competitions to and lots of fun.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Wishing you all the very best and Kung Hei Fatt Choy/Gong Xi Fa Cai.
Happy Chinese “Niu” Year.
With kind regards as always.
